You did a great job highlighting the importance of the river and fish, and what issues face Maine’s native communities in regards to these things. I really liked that you outlined all the amazing things that have been happening with the Penobscot people since they’ve taken matters into their own hands and began to revitalize the community. What do you think would be useful things for non-natives to do to support in this effort? And with the high rates of crimes against natives being committed by non-natives, do you think the tribe should have jurisdiction in this matter? Or what other options are there to help this issue?
Hi Elizabeth I really agree it’s challenging for us understand the culture. Maine needs to understand the native culture. It’s crazy how water access is not given freely to the natives.
Hey Elizabeth, I think you did such a great job on story too! I really liked how much you highlighted the negative medical effects the tribes have had to deal with.
