This photo/article was published in 1975, illustrating the accomplishments of Lorraine Hansberry after writing her play A Raisin in the Sun. Women have not always been respected in the literary community. They have been seen as illegitimate in comparison to their male counterparts who were “smarter” and “wittier”. Through her writing, she was able to convey a certain message of what it was like to be black in America.
